Scottish wife gives away coffin after husband lives 'longer than she hoped'

A Scottish wife had left social media users in stitches this week after she posted an advert trying to give away the coffin she had 'hoped' would be for her husband.

The unusual advert for the coffin caused quite the reaction on Facebook Marketplace this week after the Margaret Stables stated that her husband had lived 'longer than she hoped.'

Sharing an image of the brand new coffin, Margaret explained she had originally purchased the item as a joke, and saw hundreds of comments quickly flood in.

The woman, from Easdale near Oban, uploaded the advert on Monday, which featured a picture of the silver coffin with a brand new white pillow inside.

Margaret wrote: "Giving away a brand new coffin. Bought it for my husband but he has lived longer than I had hoped and expected so no longer required and it’s cluttering up my house.

"Pillow not included as my dog has taken to it. I am in Easdale but can deliver within reason."

Not an advert many were expecting to see, the Record reports that other users were quick to make some hilarious responses in the comments.

One person joked: "Does it fit any husband?" while another tagged her partner and said: "Early Christmas present for you babe?"

Meanwhile a third said: "I bought one of these last year as a birthday pressie for the mother-in-law. She didn't use it - so she's getting buggerall this year!"

Many others were left scratching their heads as to whether the listing was for real - but Margaret has since told the Record that it is a genuine advert and told how she purchased the coffin for her husband after he annoyed her when drunk.

Speaking to the Record, Margaret said: "I bought it in lockdown for a laugh cause we were out at a friend's garden party one night. We’d both had a few too many to drink and he was annoying me, so I thought it’d be a laugh to buy this for him."
