SCOTTISH firm Business Stream has signed a multi-million-pound contract with retailer Greggs.
The Edinburgh-based water retailer will provide water and wastewater services to Greggs’s nine UK manufacturing sites and more than 1400 UK shops, as part of the three-year deal.
Business Stream is the largest operator in the Scottish non-domestic water market and was formed in 2006.
Last month, firm announced that it had saved customers just under £32 million over the past year through discounts and energy efficiency measures.
Jo Dow, chief executive of Business Stream, said: “We’re delighted to have signed a new contract with Greggs.
“As a responsible retailer, we’re committed to taking steps to positively impact the environment and society as a whole – so it’s fantastic to be working with customers like Greggs who share this commitment.
“By working with Greggs to reduce their water we can help to deliver financial savings and support their environmental targets too.”
Greggs is aiming to identify water efficiencies across its UK sites in order to help meet the bakery chain's sustainability targets.
In February 2021, Greggs launched "The Greggs Pledge", announcing 10 ambitions that the company hopes to achieve by 2025. These ambitions were based around stronger and healthier communities, a safer planet and better business.
Greggs recently achieved its aim of reducing its carbon footprint by a quarter in a 12-month period.
Ally Stephenson, head of purchasing for Greggs, said: “We’re very pleased to have signed a new contract with Business Stream.
“Our focus will be to continue to work together to identify and deliver efficiencies across our sites, helping to support our pledge to create a safer planet.”
