SCOTTISH Water have issued a statement as a “burst sewer main” has flooded part of the M8 in Glasgow.
Traffic Scotland confirmed on Friday morning that lane two of the motorway's westbound carriageway on-slip at Junction 25A (Braehead Interchange) has been shut due to “flooding”.
Scottish Water have since said that both lanes of the slip-road have been closed off due to contaminated water covering the carriageway and surrounding area from a burst sewer main.
A spokesperson for the water firm said a team of operatives are working on-site to clean the affected area so that the road will be fully or partially re-opened as soon as possible.
The spokesperson for the water firm added: “We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption that this causes to road users and thank them for their patience and understanding while the work progresses.”
Traffic Scotland has urged drivers to take care on approach to the affected area and have instructed anyone who is heading to the Braehead shopping centre to leave the M8 J26 and take Renfrew Road.
In an updated post on social media, a spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said: “M8 Junction 25A.
