Scottish Water is advising road users in Hamilton of some major road traffic management following a burst on a 12-inch water main earlier this morning.
Engineers attended and quickly isolated the burst main located at the junction of Quarry Street and Duke Street which was affecting normal supplies for some customers in the area.
In order to carry out the repair safely, Quarry Street and Duke Street have been closed and diversions are now in place. These diversions will remain in place for the duration of the repair and reinstatement works.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Operatives are working as quickly and as safely as they can to get things back to normal and the roads re-opened as soon as possible.
“Scottish Water would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and any extended journey times due to the diversions.
“While repairs are being carried out, tankers are in operation adding water to the local network to help restore and maintain customer supplies.
“Any customer who experiences brown or discoloured water should run their cold-water kitchen tap at a reduced pressure until it runs clear.
“They should then repeat the process with any other taps affected. More information will be communicated as soon as it is possible to do so.”
