A UNIVERSITY has failed to pay its staff and a union has called for an urgent fix and compensation for all those who are affected.
Staff at the University of Glasgow have not paid after an apparent technical issue with several banks.
Unison, one of the largest trade unions in the UK, posted a statement on its social media saying they were aware that “no-one” employed by the university had been paid today.
The union also said it had launched an investigation and was in touch with senior management about the situation and the “distress” it has caused their members.
Unison branch chair at the University of Glasgow Sophie Watson has stressed there needs to be an urgent resolution, and that unpaid staff who could be out of pocket due to non-payment should be compensated.
She said: “We understand there are technical issues with a number of banks.
“However, the university need to get this fixed urgently and compensate any staff who are out of pocket.
“Rent, mortgages and direct debits could go unpaid, and staff could go overdrawn and incur further charges.
“Unison is in contact with management and staff, and we are trying to get answers from the university to see when this will be resolved.
“We are supporting staff who need further advice”.
The University of Glasgow has been approached for comment.
