HOLLYWOOD superstar Gerard Butler dropped in to cheer on a team of more than 300 cyclists and support teams who are journeying 800 miles across Ireland and Scotland to raise funds for motor neuron disease (MND) research in memory of rugby legend Doddie Weir OBE.
The 300 actor – a vocal supporter of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation – greeted the Doddie’s Grand Tour team as they arrived at Glenalmond College in Perthshire, chatting and signing autographs with tour leaders Rob Wainwright, Mark Beaumont, Gordon D’Arcy and the rest of the teams. The teams have travelled almost 600 miles.
The teams will arrive in Edinburgh on Saturday to complete Doddie’s Grand Tour 2025.
The teams – led by former Scotland rugby captain and MND campaigner Rob Wainwright, and Ireland and Lions legend Gordon D’Arcy – will arrive into the city’s Grassmarket at around 3pm, where thousands of rugby fans, in town for Scotland’s Six Nations clash against Ireland tomorrow, are expected to greet them.
World-record-breaking endurance cyclist Mark Beaumont and Doddie Weir’s widow, Kathy Weir, will be among those joining the final leg of the ride into the capital.
So far, the cyclists have raised more than £470,000 for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and are set to smash the £500,000 barrier this weekend – all of which will go towards the Doddie Aid 2025 total.
