SCOTLAND-BASED rocket launch services company Orbex has opened its annual internship programme. It will recruit nine people to support experts working towards Orbex Prime’s inaugural launch later this year.
The internship offers a chance for STEM and law students to gain hands-on experience in Scotland’s space sector.
Interns will work closely with the team developing the Prime rocket, with roles spanning diverse areas of the business including assembly, integration and test (AIT), software, legal, avionics, ground segment software, and structures.
The internships are hotly contested in the industry with more than 1650 people registering their interest in the programme over the last 12 months.
Rowan Spencer, from the University of Glasgow, joined Orbex’s 2024/25 internship programme as an assembly, integration and test intern. He said: “Rockets have always been a huge passion of mine. When I saw Orbex was recruiting, I jumped at the chance to gain hands-on experience with a company that is at the forefront of Scotland’s space sector.
“Being able to work with such a skilled and dynamic team has been an incredible experience, and it’s something I’ll carry with me throughout my career.”
Orbex chief executive Phillip Chambers said: “We are entering the final stages of developing our Prime rocket and with our very first launch set for later this year, it’s an especially exciting time to join us.”
The paid 10-month programme welcomes applications from talented students with space and engineering backgrounds. Information about the internship programme can be found at orbex.space/work-with-us/internships.
Candidates can contact Orbex technical talent acquisition specialist Olga Kantoch via LinkedIn if they have any questions. Applications will close on March 3 at 5pm.
