Soap star issues plea from operating table after 'ignoring infection' for years

A Scottish soap star has issued a plea to his fans after finding himself on an operating table after 'ignoring infection' for a number of years.

Iain Robertson, 41, who plays Stevie O'Hara in BBC Scotland soap River City, took to social media with a snap of him lying in a hospital bed to tell his followers not to ignore worrying symptoms and to head to a doctor if you think there is something wrong with you.

The actor thanked staff at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for taking care of him and having his problem dealt with "swiftly".

Iain posted on Twitter his plea and said that he had been hospitalised after failing to deal with a medical issue for "years".

The tweet reads: "Found myself an unexpected guest of the NHS this week. Firstly I’d really like to thank the amazing nurses - they really were amazing btw and the doctors and staff at the QEUH who took amazing care of me and so swiftly dealt with problem.

"But also it’s worth saying to folk (particularly guys my age), that this was a recurring intermittent infection that I had been dealing with myself for (literally) years & not wanting to bother the doctor with. In a matter of hours from showing GP - I was on an operating table."

Iain then added in capital letters: "GO SEE YER DOCTORS LADS!"

It is not clear exactly why Iain was rushed to hospital or how he is recuperating since the photo from the operating table.

Fans of the actor rushed to send well wishes to him and one reiterated Iain's plea, replying: Aw Iain, I am so sorry to see this.

"Hopefully folk will take on board your advice as so many of us often don't want to 'bother' the doctor.

"I wish you a really speedy, full recovery. It's so good to see you are being well looked after!"

Another added: "This resonated with me. Hope you're on the mend, Iain.

"I ignored a chest infection post-COVID for a month & thankfully starting to feel better now following the selection box I got from the doctors last week. May not have needed as much if I'd got it seen to earlier."
