Scottish road crash horror claims the lives of two-year-old boy and grandparents

A horrific crash on a Scottish country road claimed the lives of a young toddler and his grandparents, it has been confirmed. The two-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after the smash on the A9 at Slochd Summit, near Carrbridge on Tuesday morning but sadly died a short time later.

His grandad David McPherson, 68, who was driving a red Ford Fiesta when it crashed with a black Mercedes C Class, died at the scene. His wife and the lad's gran, Elza McPherson, 64, was also taken to hospital but died later.

The Record reports how a man and a woman, aged 67 and 65, who were travelling in the black Mercedes were also injured and taken to hospital. Their conditions are now described as stable by medical staff.

A white Mercedes Sprinter pick up vehicle was also involved in the collision, but the male driver did not suffer any injuries. Police were alerted to the crash at around 11.40am on Tuesday, July 5.

The road was closed for nine hours while crash scene investigators conducted enquiries into the circumstances of the collision. Sergeant Neil MacDonald, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased and the family have requested that their privacy is respected at this time.

"We are conducting extensive enquiries into the circumstances of this incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

"In particular, I would ask anyone with dash cam devices to check their footage as it could hold images which could prove to be significant in our enquiries."
