Scottish property with stunning harbour views cheaper than Edinburgh one bed flat

When it comes to searching for your dream home, it can be a bit of a nightmare with prices still soaring across the UK.

But if you want to escape the busy city life in favour of a more relaxed way of living, why not move a little further north?

And better yet, if you're after a renovation project to keep you busy, this could be the one for you.

Situated in Wick, Caithness, this property is actually a warehouse coming with a total of 65,000 square feet. According to Zoopla, the former warehouse is an old Granary building that has a 'B' listing.

It is also said to date back to the 18th century and is an ideal property to purchase to then convert into residential accommodation. Guests can then have a view looking straight onto the sea, and who wouldn't want that?

Thw property is located in Wick. (Zoopla.)

Describing the property Zoopla said: "Located in the small coastal village of Staxigoe, which is two miles east of Wick, it is surrounded by sea views and was many years ago the main port for the area. Perhaps being ideal for conversion into residential accommodation or a host of other possibilities subject to suitable planning consent.

"Historic Scotland has an interest in the basic character being retained. Facing straight onto the open sea with the pretty harbour of Staxigoe below which is a popular picnic area in the summer months. The plot itself has a small amount of ground to either side of the building. Viewing is recommended of this exciting development opportunity."

But with offers over £65,000, we wanted to see how this compares to Edinburgh's cheapest flat. And here's what we came across.

We found this one bed flat located in Laichpark Place which is less than a 15 minute walk to Saughton Public Park. The flat currently offers over £99,950 and was just added today (August 5).

The flat features an open plan kitchen, living and dining area, one bedroom and one bathroom with it being listed as an "ideal opportunity for a first-time buyer or buy-to-let investor."

Writing in the description, Zoopla have said: "Located in the popular Chesser area of Edinburgh the flat is surrounded by shared grounds and comes with an exclusive parking space.

"The accommodation includes an entrance hallway and a good sized lounge and kitchen which is on open plan with three windows. There is a double wardrobe and a door leads to the bedroom.

"The kitchen is fitted with modern base and wall units with oven, hob, hood and washing machine to remain and space for fridge. The bedroom has a window to the side and a shelved alcove with overhead cupboard. The bathroom is fitted with a three-piece coloured suite with shower over the bath."

The main bathroom has a bath and shower. (Zoopla.)

The area of Chesser lies to the west of the city centre and has a variety of local amenities including a large 24 hour Asda superstore, the Corn Exchange and Green's Fitness Centre. The new Edinburgh West Retails Park also offers a variety of shops including an M&S Foodhall as well as a Costa Coffee for those needing their caffeine fix.

In addition to the variety of shops just on your doorstep, there are also excellent transport links within a stone's throw with the nearby railway station at Slateford providing easy and fast links to Haymarket Station. Ready access is also available to the city bypass with links to the A1, M8, M9, the Forth Road Bridge and the Gogar Bank and South Gyle Business Centres.
