The man received treatment from paramedic crews but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers closed the road for more than five hours to allow for a ‘collision investigation’ to be completed by colleagues.
An appeal has now been launched for further information with anyone who may have witnessed the incident asked to contact police immediately.
Road policing chiefs say they are especially interested in hearing from motorists with dashboard-mounted cameras that may have captured the collision.
