THE Scottish Liberal Democrats have held a seat on Highland Council following a by-election.
Andrew Baxter has been elected for the Fort William and Ardnamurchan ward after Angus MacDonald stepped down to take up his seat in Westminster.
It comes after Scottish Labour also held onto three seats on Glasgow City Council.

Baxter was elected at stage one of voting with 1428 votes while the SNP came in second place with 619 votes.
However, it comes on the same day that a Scottish LibDem elected to Edinburgh City Council last week stepped down.
The Daily Record reports that Louise Spence’s house was put on the market just one day after campaigning about living locally.
Spence has said that a “sudden change in personal circumstances” meant she could no longer fulfil her role as a councillor.
