Scottish landscape photography award winners crowned – see the top five's shots

THE winner of the 2023 Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year has been announced.

Bearsden-based Brian Pollock took home the gold for his set of three images of the Highlands.

His three pictures – "Binnean Beag and the Grey Corries from Binnean Mor", "Stob Ban and Stob Coire Easan, from Sgor Eilde Beag", and "Buachaille Etive Mòr in Winter from Beinn a’ Chrùlaiste" – were judged to be the best of the around 4000 pictures which were submitted for the contest.

Stuart Low, the competition’s founder, said the number of entrants had dipped hugely during the pandemic years, but the contest was now back to normal.

Low said: “The awards really suffered during the pandemic because both home-based and overseas photographers alike couldn’t get out for new material to enter.

“Thankfully, things are back to normal again, and as well as the home-grown talent, we’ve had photographers enter from Australia, Germany, Czechia and the Netherlands, and despite the cost of living crisis coupled with the war in Ukraine, we had over 4000 images entered.”

Pollock said he was “delighted” to have come out on top.

He went on: “The outdoors and the Scottish landscape in particular have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember and it is a privilege to be able to share that passion through my photography.”
