A Scottish land gifting company has been selected to provide part of the goodie bags handed out to Oscar nominees.
Some of last night's film stars received a legal right to a plot of land in Glencoe, including a personalised certificate with a presentation box, hand book and some information about conservation work being done there.
Doug Wilson, director at Highland Titles, explained he was made aware of the opportunity by his PR team and with a bit of “good luck” his company was selected.
The company also offers the title Lord and Lady of Glencoe, which is a registered trademark it gives customers permission to use.
Wilson said: “We got some huge stars there - Steven Spielberg, Will Smith, Denzel Washington - if any of them did anything with their own social profiles that would be awesome; I don't expect they will get in touch, but let’s hope that they do.”
He revealed that last year was the company's best ever, with pandemic restrictions leading to more online shopping for unusual gifts.
Highland Titles does indeed own the land near Glencoe, running a small nature reserve as a visitor attraction for those that want to visit their plot.
Wilson said that before the lockdown it had around 10,000 visitors in 2019, but this fell to only 1,000 visitors in 2020 and 2021.
“It’s been great for the local economy, it’s a fairly remote part of the highlands, probably about 2,000 people live there.
“The vast majority come from overseas, so they're all staying in hotels, eating at the restaurants using other service providers - we actually have a little scheme if you show the plot of land certificate you get a discount from tours.
Highland Titles also launched a new corporate plot gifting service after insurance company Allianz got in touch to buy 100 or so plots, as it was sending a team to Scotland for a team building exercise and wanted them to plant trees.
The Distinctive Assets 'Everyone Wins' goody bag, which has no link to the Academy Awards but is given out on the night, also includes a three night stay at Angus hotel, Turin Castle.
Yvonne and her husband, who worked in the oil industry, bought the 10-bedroom castle eight years ago after returning to live in Scotland from abroad.
The package includes private use of the 10-bedroom hotel, butler service, a premium gin service and the chance to go foraging in the castle garden for food to be used in their meals.
