A PERTHSHIRE event set to mark the Queen’s Jubilee has been called off after receiving a low number of sign-ups.
The 5k Platinum Jubilee Run had been scheduled to take place in Perth on Saturday, with participants encouraged to join in fancy dress to kick things off at 6pm.
The event, which had been promoted on the UK Government’s official Jubilee website, was also supposed to include a family run element and a toddler dash.
But with just days to go until the run, organisers Still Going Strong have been forced to cancel.
They told The Courier: “We are sorry and disappointed to have to cancel the Perth Platinum Jubilee Run 2022.
“The decision has been taken after careful consideration of several factors which will inhibit our ability to deliver the experience that participants enjoy and expect from one of our events.”
The organisers suggested the pandemic was to blame for the low turnout.
Still Going Strong continued: “The number of entries has been low with the ongoing after effects of the pandemic, which has sadly made the event unviable.
“We remain extremely grateful to Perth and Kinross Council for their support in trying to deliver this event and we are working closely with them to re-schedule a similar version later this year.”
A number of other Jubilee events will take place in the city, with a classic car showcase and the first ever Perthshire Mela due to go ahead over the weekend.
Thursday night will see a number of beacons lit across the Perth and Kinross region to mark the monarch’s 70th year on the throne.
