Scottish influencer left baffled by Wetherspoon food prices at local pub

A Scottish Wetherspoon customer was left puzzled during one recent visit after noticing the chain's seemingly random food prices.

With most restaurant's rounding the price of each dish or drink to the nearest ten or pound, various dishes on the menu at Wetherspoon were bizarrely odd numbers plucked from thin air.

The foodie, from Paisley, uploaded a video to social media platform TikTok in a quest to find the answer to the puzzling new addition to the menu. A few of the notable changes included a bowl of soup priced at £4.03 and a side of chilli for 83p.

As the Mirror reports, the customer initially thought she had one too many drinks and was imagining things. The woman, who goes by @brodie_bites_ on TikTok, questioned: "Can someone please explain what on Earth has happened to Wetherspoons prices?

"We went to Spoons on the way home from Glasgow the other night just to grab something to eat because we had been drinking and realised we hadn't actually eaten yet.

The Scottish TikToker was bemused by the random prices at her local Wetherspoon. (@brodies_bites_/TikTok))

"The point of this video is because for the first time in ages we've been to Spoons and normally it's like £1.29 for coleslaw, £10.59 for a burger and a drink - what the hell is this? £4.03 for soup, £5.54 for nachos - like what? £5.27 for a panini and a drink - what is actually going on?

"It continues throughout the whole menu, such bizarre pricing and even the side dishes, it's 81p for a side of chilli and £4.03 for chips, like I just don't understand it."

Hoping users who viewed the video would dip into the comment section with some form of reasoning, several users happened to agree that the pricing was random and said they too noticed it at their local Wetherspoon.

Last month, the chain, which runs 843 pubs in the UK and Ireland announced they would be increasing their prices by 7.5 per cent which adds on roughly 29p to the cost of every pint While the cost of a drink does vary by pub this means the average pint of Carlsberg is up from £2.39 to £2.57, Stella from £3.35 to £3.60 and Leffe from £3.85 to £4.14.

Pub chain spokesman, Eddie Gherson, told the Daily Star: "Wetherspoon has increased prices on food and drink by 7.5 percent. We believe that our prices are still very competitive in all the locations that we trade."
