TEN key Scottish independence figures are set to share their priorities for the 2026 Holyrood elections at a grassroots conference this weekend.
The conference will be held on Saturday, April 5 at the Pearce Institute in Govan, and will take the form of an interactive event bringing together independence supporters and interested others to shape the group's priorities for the 2026 Holyrood election.
Newly elected co-conveners Martyn Day and Roza Salih are to lead the event with Tommy Sheppard, Professor Iain Black, Assa Samake-Roman, Max Wiszniewski, Robin McAlpine, Selma Rahman, George Kerevan, Nicke Kemp, Professor Robbie Mochrie, and Simon Barrow all attending.
There will be a report produced on their policy priorities as well as the views of those attending.
Former SNP MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk Day and Glasgow councillor Salih were appointed by members of the Scottish Independence Convention (SIC) in December.
Co-conveners Isobel Lindsay and Greg McMarra stood down after three years leading the organisation.
Participants will collaborate to identify and develop the three most crucial issues that should be at the forefront of the independence electoral agenda amid a time of relative stagnation for the movement.
Co-convener Salih: “So many people are disillusioned about politics and feel that elected politicians don't seem to be able to challenge big vested interests. They feel powerless. We are so far from the mood of the referendum when there was a widespread feeling that real change was in the hands of voters.
"Just being competent managers of the status-quo is not enough. We need to have big ideas and real nerve to go for independence.
"We have to show some of that nerve and practical but radical vision to convince voters that we can change Scotland for the better and stand up to power”.
