A Scottish castle in the Highlands complete with its own bar and restaurant has gone on sale.

The 22 bed castle hotel is situated Dornoch, Sutherland and the sale could be brilliant business opportunity for someone who wants a piece of Scotland's history. Although refurbished for modern living, the property dates right back to the 15th century and the previous owners have insisted in keeping its historic character throughout.

But of course with a mass of bedrooms, a five-storey tower, accommodation for staff, cellar and walled garden - it comes with a price. Buyers will need deep pockets as it's on sale for offers over a £2,500,000.

The castle became a hotel in 1947 and great care has been taken to preserve the historic character of the building. The current owners are only the third since 1947. This property is listed Grade B by Historic Scotland and lies within a conservation area. The Royal Dornoch Championship Golf Course is just a short walk away and being just off the main A9 road and North Coast 500, it is perfect for holidaymakers coming to/from Inverness and the airport.

A number of bedrooms are found in the older part of the building and retain some of the historic features. (Strutt and Parker)

The castle hotel consists of 22 bedrooms, a restaurant which is a conservatory style and looks out onto a garden, the 'vault' which offers private dining, a reception and a bar complete with a historic stonewall.

The rooms in the older part of the building have stunning architectural features and are fitted out to a luxurious level including hand carved four poster beds, three with Jacuzzi baths and two with open fires.

Strutt and Parker estate agents add: "The accommodation, food and beverage and wedding trade has proved to be a successful mix of business shown by the healthy turnover and profits. There is the further potential to apply to reinstate a planning consent for a bedroom, spa and restaurant extension."
