A SCOTTISH heroin dealer has died behind bars at HMP Kilmarnock.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) announced that William John Gibb, from Ardrossan, passed away on Saturday, January 23.
The 55-year-old was convicted in October last year after he tendered a guilty plea at a trial diet to a charge of being concerned in the supply of the class A drug diamorphine on December 21, 2022.
At the time he was jailed after a sheriff snubbed a last-ditch plea from his lawyer to 'take a chance' on him.
A Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) into Gibb's death will be carried out in due course.
Police Scotland has been advised of the death and the matter will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: “Every death, whether in prison custody or in our communities, is a tragedy for all those who knew and supported the individual.
“Following the death of someone in our care, Police Scotland are advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
"Fatal Accident Inquiries are held in due course.”
