Scottish Government confirms four deaths and 359 new Covid cases in Tayside

The Scottish Government has confirmed four coronavirus deaths were reported in Tayside in the last 24 hours.

The area's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - rises to 825.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that 359 new cases were recorded overnight in the region.

In total, Tayside has recorded 78,666 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 91.2% of people across Tayside have had at least one jag, 85.9% have received at least two, while 68.6% have also received a third, or booster, vaccination.

Across the country, 8,275 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last day.

There were 20 Covid-confirmed deaths reported meaning the country's overall death toll from the virus rises to 10,275.

There are currently 1,319 people in Scotland's hospitals being treated for covid with 30 in intensive care.

The figures come as it was announced that guidance on working from home will be relaxed within days after Scotland continued to make progress in the battle against Omicron.

Nicola Sturgeon said employers will be asked to consider “hybrid” working for staff - a combination of being at home and in the office.

This is different from the current guidance which backs home working when it is practical.

The First Minister made the announcement in Holyrood.

WFH guidance was strengthened late last year in response to the crisis over the Omicron covid variant.

It comes as health bosses warned the coronavirus pandemic has undone “10 or 15 years of improvements”.
