Scottish Government confirms 8,310 covid cases in last 24 hours

Scotland has recorded 8,310 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, according to recent figures.

However, the Scottish Government say Public Health Scotland "have been unable to provide daily deaths figures" for Tuesday "due to a technical issue".

On Wednesday the death toll under this measurement, of people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days, was 10,341.

There were 1,116 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19, with 28 in intensive care.

So far 4,417,105 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while 4,130,639 have received their second dose, and 3,302,671 have received a third dose or booster.

Public Health Scotland will soon report on people who have been reinfected with Covid (PA)

It comes a day after Nicola Sturgeon confirmed "baseline" covid restrictions will remain in place across Scotland.

The First Minister told MSPs at her weekly statement on the pandemic that recent data "continues to give grounds for optimism".

But Scots will still be expected to wear face coverings when using public transport, visiting shops or other indoor public spaces.

They will also continue to be required in Scottish secondary schools for at least another week.

The Scottish Government is required by law to review all covid restrictions every three weeks.

She also announced Public Health Scotland will soon report on people who have been reinfected with Covid.
