A SCOTTISH fourth-generation ice cream business has been awarded "best sorbet in the UK" at an annual awards ceremony.
The Ice Cream Alliance hosted its annual awards ceremony on the March 5, and Scotland’s G Porrelli and Co Ltd claimed victory as ice cream makers across the nation competed to create the perfect passionfruit sorbet.
The Paisley-based company has been producing Italian-style ice cream for 100 years, celebrating a centenary in business this year.
Alongside classic flavours, they are renowned for inventive flavours, including Scottish Tablet, Iron Brew, Turkish Delight, and Italian Mascarpone and Amarena Cherry.
Dario Durante, great-grandson of the original founder Gerardo Porrelli, reflected on the win, stating: “This award is a great achievement, especially in our centenary year.
"We’re so proud to have won this award.”
Porrelli was established by Gerardo in 1925 when he immigrated to Scotland from San Biagio in Southern Italy.
The current managing director Enzo Durante is the grandson of the founder and he is supported by his wife Ines and son Dario.
Another Italian descended business were crowned Ice Cream Makers of the Year. Morelli Ice Cream - Ireland's multi-award winning Italian ice cream makers since 1911 - won both National Ice Cream and Best of Vanilla.
