Scottish football gains new overseas TV broadcaster

The Scottish Professional Football League is set to increase its worldwide reach with German TV channel, Sportdigital, gaining rights to broadcast Scottish football to their audiences.

Under the terms of a five-season deal signed with Infront, Sportdigital will now have the ability to air matches from the Scottish Premiership, bringing top-tier Scottish football back to German viewers.

This partnership is particularly important for Sportdigital, as it fills the void left by the recent loss of English Football League (EFL) broadcasting rights.

The Hamburg-based company previously held rights to the Scottish Premiership during the 2015-16 season, making this new agreement a welcomed comeback.

With a growing interest football from overseas, the SPFL is poised to capture the attention of German audiences eager to follow their favourite teams and players in Scotland.

Infront, the agency facilitating this deal, has established an exclusive media rights partnership with the SPFL that extends until the conclusion of the 2028-29 season. This long-term agreement ensures that fans can look forward to consistent coverage of the league's matches, showcasing the talents of clubs such as Celtic, Rangers, and Aberdeen, among others.
