Scottish Finance Secretary visits Lanarkshire company's environmentally-friendly base

An environmentally-friendly company welcomed the Scottish Finance Secretary to its Lanarkshire base.

Kate Forbes MSP's visit to Autonomous iOt in Chapelhall was organised to champion the recent award of £243,000 of Scottish Green Jobs funding, which enables the firm to create several new, permanent full-time green jobs and grow its research and development centre as a base to develop and expand its products.

Hosted by Autonomous iOt CEO Bobby Kane, the Cabinet Secretary enjoyed a full tour of the company’s manufacturing facility, heard the story behind the products in development and was introduced to the full team.

Kate Forbes MSP told Lanarkshire Live : “The Scottish Government is firmly focused on ensuring we can seize Scotland’s economic potential and secure a just transition to net-zero.

"Initiatives like our Green Jobs Fund are helping companies such as Autonomous iOt, a fast-growing North Lanarkshire business I visited, which is winning orders from across the UK for its solar and wind powered intelligent lighting products.

“Our £243,000 grant will help the company ramp up its manufacturing and research and development activities and create new, skilled jobs.”

Airdrie-based Autonomous iOt, founded in 2019, is committed to tackling climate change through the research, development and manufacturing of environmentally conscious renewable energy products powered by the sun and wind.

Its intelligent platform has already been purchased and installed throughout the UK by public sector housing authorities, councils and private sector companies each benefiting from carbon reduction and savings on previous costs.

Bobby Kane said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome the Cabinet Secretary to Autonomous iOt, during which she showed great interest both in our product development journey and the people behind it.

"Following our Scottish Green Jobs Funding award, the visit by Kate Forbes MSP is another fantastic endorsement for the work we are doing and has the full team at Autonomous energised for the exciting year ahead."
