Scottish FA deliver Kilmarnock vs Celtic red card verdict

Celtic star Reo Hatate SHOULD have been sent off against Kilmarnock, the Scottish FA has confirmed.

The Key Match Incident panel has delivered its weekly findings from the latest round of Scottish Premiership fixtures.

And they have revealed that the call to book Hatate for his late lunge at Killie midfielder Liam Donnelly  was the wrong call.

The Japanese player caught the Northern Irishman high on his shin, just below the knee, with his studs fully showing.

Referee Nick Walsh brandished a yellow card, with VAR checking the incident and backing the on-field decision without recommending a further review at the pitchside monitor.

The flashpoint occurred on the 79th minute, with Brendan Rodgers substituting Hatate shortly after.

Now, the SFA has confirmed that Hatate should've indeed walked for his tackle.

The notes on the incident from the review panel read: "The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (3:2) deeming the onfield decision incorrect.

"The majority (3:2) believed that VAR should have intervened and recommended an OFR for a red card to be awarded as they believed that the challenge endangered the safety of the opponent.

"Two members of the panel highlighted that they didn't think the potential foul was clear and obvious enough for VAR to get involved and a caution sufficed."

The panel also reviewed the decision by Walsh to book Killie's Joe Wright for appearing to catch Adam Idah with an elbow after only nine minutes.

They feel that a yellow card was the correct call.
