Scottish drinks firm lands major deal with popular supermarket chain

AN ABERDEEN drinks firm has secured a major deal with a popular supermarket chain.

Fierce Beer has brewed up a deal with retailer Scotmid to sell its new fizzy and fruity creation – Iron Brew.

The drink from the Granite City’s only brewery is a combination of part beer and part nostalgic soft drink and has hit the Scotmid shelves across the country.

Fierce Beer was founded by Dave Grant, an explosives expert turned craft beer entrepreneur and his business partner Dave McHard, who both swapped careers in oil and gas to take on the craft beer industry.

“We always felt there was room for something different in the market, and we were confident we could go up against the big names,” Grant told the Press and Journal.

“The big driver for us was the fact that there wasn’t a brewery in the city of Aberdeen itself. It’s quite sad that we’re still the only city brewery.”

He added that the majority of Scots don’t know who Fierce Beer is but will concentrate on building the brand in Scotland.

Grant said: “We’ve moved away from wanting to conquer the UK because it’s very difficult to do, and we’ll concentrate on the Scottish market, particularly the local market.

“I would still say that the majority of people don’t know we exist. When they do come out to visit us, they’re quite surprised that we’re a large production facility.”

Richard McLelland, sales consultant for Fierce Beer, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch as he said the supermarket chain is a “champion” of Scottish brands.

He said: “Working with Scotmid is an incredible opportunity for us.

“They’re champions of local Scottish producers, and it’s exciting to have our Iron Brew Beer Cooler exclusively available in their stores. This brew is one of our most unique and exciting creations to date, and we’re thrilled to bring it to Scotmid’s customers. It’s a true celebration of Scotland’s ingenuity and vibrant flavours.”

Steven Addison, local sourcing manager at Scotmid, hailed the collaboration with Fierce Beer as he said supporting Scottish businesses is part of Scotmid’s ethos.

He said: “We’re delighted to welcome Fierce Beer’s Iron Brew Beer Cooler to our shelves. The imagination and innovation behind the product perfectly reflect the spirit of our Scottish Favourites competition. Supporting local businesses is central to Scotmid’s ethos, and we’re proud to offer this exclusive product to our customers. This collaboration is a toast to Scottish creativity and innovation.

“Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast, a lover of iconic Scottish flavours, or simply curious about this groundbreaking concoction, one thing is certain: this is a Scottish favourite you won’t want to miss.”
