Scottish Cup: Derek McInnes says Kilmarnock beating Dundee United wouldn't be shock as he eyes last 16

Derek McInnes reckons that there isn't enough between Kilmarnock and Dundee United to say it would be a Scottish Cup upset should his side prevail.

Despite the teams being a league apart, the Killie boss knows the Arabs will be viewing it as a tough test as much as the Ayrshire side do.

United are on a slide after losing their last six games, whereas the Rugby Park side are unbeaten in McInnes's first two matches.

And the former Aberdeen boss is eyeing a victory against Tam Courts' men in a bid to get into the hat for the last 16.

He said: “I think this would always be seen as a tough game for both teams with a team near the top of the Championship at home to a mid-table Premiership side.

“The fact we are in the Championship is through our own doing and getting back to the Premiership is the main challenge.

“But we know that by having a good cup run you can get so many benefits from that.

“The feelgood factor, the financial rewards and the confidence from beating a team like Dundee United.

“There are loads of aspects where having a good cup run will help us. I think it is a game there to be won. We feel we can win it.

“And while a Championship team beating a Premiership team might be seen as an upset to some we wouldn't see it that way."

McInnes says he's delighted that his home bow will be played in front of an unrestricted crowd.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced crowd restrictions were lifted from Monday, and tomorrow's clash will be the first time Killie feel the benefit of that.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it. With the crowd’s coming back in it will be good for everybody.

“We are playing Premier League opposition and they will bring a good support down. That just adds to it.

“It was always going to be a tough game for us but I’m sure Dundee United will be looking at it the same way. It is a tie that is there to be won."

“Nerves can be a good thing. When you wake up on a Saturday morning it is game day.

“There is a physical feeling with the adrenaline and you look forward to getting into the ground.

“When you have worked with the players all week you just want to try an executive your plan."
