Scottish Conservative candidate suspended for allegedly 'grabbing person by the throat'

A Scottish Conservative election candidate has been suspended by the party after he allegedly grabbed another person by the throat.

Robbie Withey was first elected to Aberdeenshire Council in 2017 for the Alford, Huntly and Strathbogie ward and is standing for reelection on May 5.

But in a video shared widely on social media over the weekend the candidate could be seen threatening another the person that he would put them on their “f***ing arse”.

Withey – who also works for Tory MP Andrew Bowie – is seen moving towards a younger man before holding him against the wall by the throat.

The councillor shouts: “Speak to me like that again and I will put you on your f***ing a*rse. And by the way, when I put you on your a***, it would be a prelude to putting you in the grave, you little f***ing c***.”

The Press and Journal reported that police had already been called to a property in Alford when Withey became involved.

A police spokesperson said: “An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a disturbance at a property on Main Street, Alford, which was reported around 2.30am on Saturday, April 9, 2022.

“The man has been released on undertaking and will appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.”

A Scottish Conservative spokesperson said: “We have suspended this candidate.

"We cannot comment further while a police investigation is ongoing.”
