Scottish comedians team up for new sketch show on BBC Radio Scotland

A brand new satirical sketch show has been commissioned for BBC Radio Scotland, based all around Scotland’s public figures and headed by some of the nation's best comics.

Noising Up is a brand new series set for broadcast this autumn, featuring some of Scotland's best comic talent like Karen Bartke, Stephen Buchanan, Zara Janjua, Lana Pheutan and Manjot Sumal.

The sketch show comes at a time when Scottish politics has never looked tastier meaning all the parties are in for a grilling (or an air-frying). As well as the political movers and shakers, it will also poke fun at everything from television and film to music and sport, satirising all that’s happening right now and what might just be round the corner.

The series is written by a team of emerging and established writers but also presents opportunities for aspiring writing talent to get their content featured and performed on air.

Noising Up will be produced by The Comedy Unit and was commissioned by BBC Scotland’s Gavin Smith, commissioning executive for comedy, scripted and entertainment and Gareth Hydes, commissioning editor for radio and events.

In a joint statement they said: “The BBC has a strong and proud tradition of producing satirical comedy which sends up and rips in to the public figures who dominate the news agenda.

"Noising Up not only presents us with the opportunity to take a swipe at the topics of the day using some of the best comic voices Scotland has to offer but it also offers us the chance to develop and nurture new comic writers of the future whilst serving up some much needed laughs to the audience.”

Noising Up will start on BBC Radio Scotland in early September. It will also be available to listen to via BBC Sounds.
