Scottish city named one of the best travel destinations in Europe

A CITY in Scotland has been named one of the best travel destinations in Europe at Tripadvisor's annual Travellers' Choice Awards.

Edinburgh was named alongside major cities across the continent, including Istanbul, London, Paris and Rome.

Famous for its wealth of Michelin-star restaurants, urban green spaces and historical sites, Edinburgh clinched the tenth spot in the ranking.

Various attractions, including Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum for Scotland, were highlighted.

Edinburgh was praised for its many attractions and events (Image: Getty Images) The city's world-famous Festival Fringe, which attracts thousands of visitors to the Royal Mile and beyond every year, was also mentioned.

However, it was London that took the top spot on the list, receiving commendation for its culinary and art scenes.

Discussing the awards, Tripadvisor president Kristen Dalton said that over the last 25 years, Tripadvisor had grown to become the world’s leading travel advice community, drawing on insights from real travellers all around the world.

They added that based on the more than one billion reviews and opinions on their site, Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards is able to reflect the global travel community’s favourite destinations as well as everything that makes them special including their restaurants, hotels and experiences.
