Two Scottish fish and chip shops win big at UK-wide chippy awards

Two Scottish chippies took home prizes at the National Fish and Chip Awards on Tuesday.

The ceremony, which was held on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, saw both The Fish Works in Largs and The Real Food Café in Tyndrum recognised. The former took home the NFFF Quality Accreditation Champion prize, as well as finishing third in the prestigious Fish & Chip Takeaway of the Year Award, while the latter won the From Field to Frier Award.

The NFFF Quality Accreditation Champion Award "celebrates businesses throughout the UK that give their customers the best quality fish and chips". Meanwhile, the Field to Frier Award recognises "businesses for their excellence in potato knowledge, care and chip preparation".

Taking to Facebook to share the news, The Fish Works wrote: "The Fish Works Team are so proud to have won these trophies at this years National Fish & Chip Awards.

"We cannot believe we have won best Quality Award Accreditation! The category celebrates shops throughout the UK that give their customers the best quality fish and chips.

"Thank you to everyone who supports us, from our fantastic team, amazing customers, local community and the Fish & Chip Industry."

Meanwhile, The Real Food Café commented: "Thank you one and all for the deluge of messages, likes, comments and love following our win earlier today at the National Fish and Chip Awards organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers.

"We won in the Field to Fryer category which is all about the tatties and the chips. We were assessed and judged on our potato knowledge, care and chip making practices."
