Scots clothing chain M&Co has announced that it will be closing all of its 170 stores across the UK after failing to secure a buyer after falling into administration.
The Renfrewshire based clothing company, formerly known as Mackays, appointed administrators at the start of December 2021 after being put up for sale for the second time in two years.
The retailer has since announced on social media that it will be closing the doors to all of its stores this spring, including its 46 branches in Scotland, in a move that will result in nearly 2,000 job losses.
The news comes after the clothing company was rescued by AK Retail Holdings, owner of Yours Clothing, in a deal that did not include physical stores, meaning they will now close at Easter.
M&Co's statement on Facebook read: "Unfortunately we haven't received the news we would have hoped for during our administration period, and would like to share this news with you.
"As we haven't received any funded, deliverable offers that would result in the transfer of the company's stores or staff to a potential buyer, this means that all of our stores will close."
The retailer was first founded as a pawnbrokers, known as Mackays, in Paisley, Renfrewshire in 1834 before switching to a clothing retailer in 1953 and rebranding as M&Co in 2005.
It was bought back from its Scottish owners after it first collapsed into administration in August 2020 which resulted in the loss of 47 physical stores and 380 staff members.
The announcement means that all of the clothing chain's 46 branches will be closing this spring and we have the full list of branches closing just below.
