Scottish celebrity chef announces closure of award-winning Edinburgh restaurant

SCOTTISH celebrity chef Tom Kitchin has announced the closure of one of his restaurants – Kora in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh.

In a message posted on social media, the chef said the “very tough decision” had been taken to shut the site down at the end of January as there was “no hiding” from the current economic climate.

Kitchin said: “Our regular diners and our suppliers have been instrumental in Kora’s success. Our incredible team has really shown visitors to Edinburgh how incredible Scottish fare is and how proud we are to promote Scottish hospitality.

“We have every intention to bring the Kora concept back to Edinburgh one day, but there is no hiding that the current economic climate contributes to this difficult decision.

“We have no option but to exercise our lease break clause which is now due.”

Kitchin confirmed gift vouchers for Kora could be used at his other restaurants – The Kitchin and Scran and Scallie in Ediburgh, as well as the Bonnie Badger in Gullane, East Lothian.

Kora received positive reviews, was featured in the Michelin Guide and was even named one of the UK’s best local restaurants of 2023 in the Good Food Guide.

Kitchin’s social media post added: “Thank you to everyone who made Kora by Tom Kitchin such a special, happy place to so many of us. The memories will always live on.”
