Scottish bakery listed among world's best set to close its doors for good

A SCOTTISH bakery which was listed among some of the best in the world has made the shock announcement that it is closing.

Twoeightseven has been a staple in Glasgow’s Southside for four years with customers regularly queuing to get their hands on some of the most sought-after baked goods the city has to offer.

Owners Sam and Anna Luntley aimed to provide customers a “small representation of the good that Glasgow and Scotland have to offer”.

Twoeightseven was named earlier this year in the 2024 La Liste Pastry Awards alongside some of the world's most talented bakers.

However, the owners of the bakery took to social media to break the news to their customers that Twoeightseven will close its doors for good.

In a statement, the owners said they had made the decision not to renew their lease when it ends next month saying it was “time to shake things up” and that a wise man once said, “know when to stop”.

The bakery was also recently hailed by Conde Nast Traveller magazine as one of the reasons the Southside is Scotland’s coolest neighbourhoods and was named one of the top artisan bakeries in the UK by British Baker.

The statement online read: “We have some news that is not easy to share with you...

“We want to let you know ahead of time that we will be closing twoeightseven when our lease ends on November, 30 this year.

“twoeightseven has been a total pleasure - a project which was supposed to last 18 months and fill a gap during covid, but which has been such a joyful and successful venture that we find ourselves here almost four years in.

“However, in the spirit of life is short and the world is big: full of many exciting opportunities and amazing places, we have decided that it is time to shake things up and throw ourselves into the unknown - learn new lessons, find new rhythms, meet new faces and take on new challenges.

“A wise man once said: know when to stop.”

Twoeightseven was the successor to Bakery 47 and marked the fourth version of the team’s baking adventures in the city.

The bakery’s final day will be Sunday, November 24.
