Scottish actress amongst stars nominated for Bafta Film Award

THE shortlist of nominees for this year's Bafta Film Awards has been announced with one Scottish film recognised by the prestigious ceremony.

A total of 42 films have been nominated for this year’s awards with the thriller Conclave leading the way with 12 nods across various categories.

Amongst those nominated is the adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir, The Outrun, which documents Rona’s, played by Saoirse Ronan, experience recovering from alcoholism in her childhood home of Orkney.

The film received critical acclaim following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in May last year and has now been nominated in the Outstanding British Film category at this year’s Baftas.

Along with The Outrun’s nomination, Ronan has also been nominated as Best Actress for her starring role in the drama.

When the movie premiered at the Sundance Festival one critic hailed Ronan’s performance as “Oscar worthy” while another said the film was “a stirring reminder of the human capacity to regroup, to accept a bitter past and anticipate a better future”.

Liptrot wrote the screenplay alongside director Nora Fingscheidt, with the filming taking place in Orkney in 2022.
