Scottish 45-year-old who died in diving tragedy was 'much loved family man'

A man who died in a tragic diving accident near Edinburgh has been named as 45-year-old Les Elder.

A huge emergency response had raced to an area of the coastline in Fife on Sunday (April 10), after reports of a man getting into difficulty in the water.

In a statement, Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday (April 12) that the 45-year-old, from Saline, had been at the area around Kinghorn beach as part of an organised dive.

Described as a "much loved family man", Mr Elder had been recovered from the water by emergency crews, but had tragically passed away a short time later.

Police, the coastguard and other emergency services had been present at the beach shortly after 10am, with an air ambulance landing on the beach.

His family released a statement through Police Scotland, which said : “Les was a much loved family man and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

The incident was reported to police around 9.55am and Mr Elder was recovered from the water but died a short time later.

Officers also confirmed that, as with all sudden deaths, a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
