Top-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler has been forced to withdraw from the PGA Tour's season-opening event in Hawaii after sustaining an injury to his right hand. The injury occurred while Scheffler was preparing Christmas dinner, as he sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his hand from a broken glass.
Scheffler's manager, Blake Smith, confirmed the incident, stating that small glass fragments remained in the palm, necessitating surgery. The golfer has been advised that he should make a full recovery within three to four weeks.
As a result of the injury, Scheffler has withdrawn from The Sentry tournament scheduled for Jan. 2-5 at Kapalua Resort. His next anticipated appearance is at The American Express event on Jan. 16-19 in La Quinta, California.
During the previous season, Scheffler had a remarkable run, winning the Jack Nicklaus Award as PGA Tour player of the year. He secured seven PGA Tour victories, including a second Masters title and a repeat win at The Players Championship. Additionally, Scheffler clinched an Olympic gold medal with a stellar performance on the final day and triumphed at the Tour Championship to claim the FedEx Cup.
This unfortunate injury comes at a time when Scheffler was enjoying a successful streak in his golfing career, and fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the course following his recovery.
