All charges against world number one Scottie Scheffler following his arrest during the PGA Championship have been dropped.
Scheffler was charged on May 17 with four counts including second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving.
But on Wednesday, more than two weeks later, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell said there was not enough evidence to support further legal action.
"Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler," O'Connell said during the hearing that lasted less than 10 minutes. "Mr. Scheffler's characterization that this was 'a big misunderstanding' is corroborated by the evidence."
Scheffler's attorney, Steve Romines, was asked if he wanted to comment and replied: "Judge, it's taken me a long time to understand that when I'm winning, don't talk. So I have nothing to say, your honor."
Scheffler was arrested for trying to get into the Valhalla Golf Club following an incident in which a pedestrian was hit and killed by a shuttle bus.
The 27-year-old was not involved in that incident but reportedly got into a spat with a police officer when he tried to drive around the incident despite reportedly being advised not to.
The arresting officer, Detective Bryan Gillis, and since been disciplined for not activating his body-worn camera during the arrest.
