Ravaged by injuries this season, the Toronto Raptors’ bad luck continues. The franchise confirmed Wednesday that Scottie Barnes has been diagnosed with a right ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in one week. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported that Barnes is expected to miss several weeks.
Barnes suffered the injury during third quarter action against the New York Knicks on Monday and headed straight to the locker room without putting any weight on his right foot. He didn’t return to the game and was spotted at practice Tuesday in a walking boot.
The 23-year-old is averaging 20.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 14 games — all career-highs. Barnes already missed 11 games earlier this season due to a right orbital fracture and had been sporting goggles since returning.

RJ Barrett missed the start of the season with a shoulder injury suffered in preseason; Immanuel Quickley remains out with a partial tear in the UCL of his left elbow; Kelly Olynk made his delayed season debut last week due to prior back spasms; Bruce Brown is yet to play this season. Rookie Ja’Kobe Walter also missed all of training camp, preseason and the start of the regular season with a shoulder injury.
Unsurprisingly, those mounting injuries have the Raptors languishing near the bottom of the East at 7-18.
