Scott Turner was confirmed on Wednesday as the next secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The former NFL player was nominated by President Donald Trump for his second term. His nomination passed a key procedural hurdle on Tuesday night with a bipartisan vote of 55-45, as two Democrats joined Republicans in support.
Turner had a successful nine-season career in the NFL, playing for teams such as the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos. Following his football career, he entered politics in his home state of Texas, serving as a legislator for several years.

In Trump's first administration, Turner held the position of First Executive Director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC). President Trump praised Turner's leadership in transforming distressed communities and driving economic development through various policy actions.
With his confirmation on Wednesday, Turner became the 12th Cabinet member confirmed for Trump's second term. The Republican-controlled Senate has prioritized confirming Trump's nominees, surpassing the number of confirmations at this point in both former President Joe Biden's term and Trump's first term.
