Celtic have been touted as a potential destination for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer as the summer rumour mill shifts up a gear.
However, Mark Wilson has moved to cool take that Celtic Park will be the post United destination for the Scotland star as the 26-year-old considers his future. McTominay was largely on the fringes of Erik ten Hag's squad last season and has been touted with a move away from Old Trafford after an impressive Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in dark blue - helping Steve Clarke's side to the top of Group A while netting 5 goals.
With Jota leaving Glasgow's east end for a bumper £25million move to Al Ittihard fans have ramped up speculation over how Brendan Rodgers could splash the cash - with the boss keen to make his mark on the Champions League group stage this term. Wilson field a caller on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard who floated the theory that Celtic could spend more money on McTominay following the exit of the winger for Saudi Arabia - touting a fee in the region of £20million for The Tartan Army hero.
However, Wilson played down a potential wildcard move - sighting wages and a final transfer fee as roadblocks with the likes of Newcastle United reportedly interested. The former Parkhead full back said: "When was the last player you heard who took a wage cut to move? There is very few of them.
"If you are tempting a player away from a club like Manchester United it is probably the opposite and you are giving them a few extra quid, and maybe the opportunity to play at the same level and with Champions League football. McTominay is a difficult one.
"I really like him and for Scotland he has been a star. He has that composure and he has played at a certain level where I think he would fit into the side. It's one, transfer fee and two, the wage - that is what it all comes down to."
