McTominay hails 'incredible' Hampden and tells Scotland fans: 'These are the nights we'll remember'

Scott McTominay urged Scotland fans to soak up the incredible 2-0 win over Spain on Tuesday evening - telling them 'these will be the nights we remember in 30 years'.

Hardly famed for his goalscoring exploits for the Tartan Army before the weekend, the Manchester United midfielder headed into the game against La Roja having bagged a brace against Cyprus at the weekend with Scotland winning the first game in their Euro 2024 qualifying group.

Against all the odds, the Tartan Army star bagged a superb brace either side of half time to leave Luis de la Fuente's men shellshocked at a rambunctious Hampden Park - giving Steve Clarke's side six points from two games in their bid to reach Germany next summer. And the Lancaster-born star hopes his double will live long in the memory in years to come on one of Scotland's finer nights at Hampden.

McTominay said on Viaplay shortly after the game: "We didn't have a lot of the ball, but I thought we had more than enough opportunities tonight to really hurt them and score some goals.

"Obviously, always as a kid I was an attacking midfielder and then I stretched a little bit - I got to big for that! I was then more of a sitting midfield player but I like to do both. I like to get in the box and help my teammates defend as well - for my I have to keep doing that.

"I know that I can add more goals and assist to my game and the last two games have shown I can do that.

"I feel like everyone on the pitch was at it - diving around and making the game slow. It wasn't really a clean game in terms of the fact everyone was getting up and getting on with fouls.

"It's difficult for the referee as everyone was making the most of everything. It's difficult but sometimes that's the way it has got to be whenever you're winning. You have to do stuff like that if you want to keep hold of a lead - look at this place, I have never seen anything like it. It's incredible.

"That was what the manger said in his talk before we went out into the stadium. It's a chance to make your own legacies, these are the nights in 20 or 30 years that people will remember.

They will watch back the games and saw I was there or had children who went to watch the game - that's what the game is about, they are amazing every time we come to Hampden and we can't thank them enough."
