Scott McKenna nets Aberdeen a £1 million transfer windfall as Nottingham Forest secure Premier League promotion

Former Aberdeen standout Scott McKenna has secured his former club an extra £1 million after Nottingham Forest ended their 23-year exile from the English Premier League.

The Scotland international departed the Granite City in the summer of 2020 and has become an integral member of Steve Cooper's side at the City Ground.

And they sealed glory on Sunday at Wembley after they defeated Huddersfield 1-0 at the national stadium.

McKenna's initial transfer secured Aberdeen £3 million but the Dons have now cashed in on a key stipulation that was added to the initial deal.

And the 25-year-old is set for a major role in the top flight next season as he gets set to try and stop superstars such as Erling Haaland, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mo Salah.

There's no guarantee the incoming money will be used for signings but manager Jim Goodwin will likely welcome fresh investment in a squad which finished 10th in the Scottish Premiership.

Work is underway to revamp a side which needs a spark and the Dons are understood to be progressing with a deal for Albania international Ylber Ramadani.

But more must follow and the latest cash accrued from McKenna's sale will prove key.
