Scott McGill pens Hearts contract extension as 'Gorgie boy' is rewarded for Airdrie form

Scott McGill has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension at Hearts.

Currently on loan at League One Airdrie, McGill has impressed playing under former Hibs hero Ian Murray.

He's scored four goals in 38 outings for the Diamonds and provided two assists.

He marked his debut with a stunning strike to shock Lanakrshire rivals Motherwell in the Betfred cup.

And he's been rewarded with a further year at Tynecastle.

Promotion to the Championship with Airdrie is top of his agenda, but he has his sights set on a regular spot Robbie Neilson ’s first team squad next season.

"I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve been on loan at Airdrie, working as hard as I can to get a new contract. To get it done is great, I’m over the moon," he told the club’s website.

"Being out on loan has been an amazing experience: I’ve scored a few goals and we’re sitting second – hopefully promotion to come as well.

"My aim now is to try and finish off on a high note with Airdrie and come back for preseason flying for Hearts and hopefully get into the team.

"I’m a Gorgie boy, so I can’t ask for much more."

McGill was handed his debut by Neilson last season in a Betfred Cup encounter at Cowdenbeath and has made four top-team appearances for the Jambos to date.
