Scott Coker reveals Dillon Danis finally interested in fighting again: ‘He’s going to have to really want it’

Fight fans might finally see Dillon Danis back in the cage sometime soon.

After months absent from fight discussions, Bellator president Scott Coker revealed jiu-jitsu standout Danis (2-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) recently reached out via text with the indication he’d like to discuss booking his next bout.

“He’s been texting me all weekend saying he wants to get back in and he’s ready to get back in,” Coker said at a Bellator 275 post-fight news conference Friday. “As soon as I get back home, I’m going to call him. We’re going to see if we can put something together for him. It’s going to be up to him. He’s going to have to really want it and train and get in there.”

Danis, 28, is a close friend and teammate of former UFC double champion Conor McGregor. An accomplished player in the world of grappling, Danis has expanded his own spotlight with fans and haters alike keeping a close eye on the undefeated MMA fighter.

Given his ties to Ireland’s most prominent MMA athletes and Bellator’s frequent show-holding in Dublin, Coker said Danis could fight on an upcoming card in the country.

“Absolutely,” Coker said. “Listen, when we signed Dillon, it was about being a high-level jiu-jitsu master, getting to the point that he could be a complete MMA fighter. I thought we were along the way, but then he started getting injured and injuries got in the way. If he’s ready to go, we’re ready to go.”

Thus far in his MMA career, Danis has competed twice – both for Bellator and both submission victories. In April 2018, he debuted with a toe hold win over Kyle Walker. In June 2019, Danis partook in his most recent fight when he rallied to armbar Max Humphrey. Multiple knee surgeries have kept him out of action since.
