Scott Carson has finally explained why he was dressed up as a fireman while Sergio Aguero raffled off his car to Manchester City staff.
A club documentary captured the moment that Aguero made the incredibly generous decision to thank everyone for his time in Manchester as he prepared to leave for Barcelona on a free transfer, but spotted in the background was Carson in fancy dress.
The veteran goalkeeper, who signed on a free transfer last summer after two seasons on loan, is a popular member of the dressing room and a fan favourite despite making just one appearance for the Blues. And as he answered questions from fans on a range of topics, the 36-year-old explained how he got caught up in the moment with Aguero.
"Last season I missed a couple of weeks. I had an accident at home, got burnt so I was in hospital for a little bit," he told the club site. "The way the banter is in football the lads thought it would be a good idea to give me the fireman's outfit. I put it on but obviously the timing no-one knew that Kun was going to give his car away so it was just by chance that I walked up there and that was all happening."
Carson has been praised by Pep Guardiola for the impact he has behind the scenes, and was recently picked ahead of Ederson in Ruben Dias's dream five-a-side team.
The former Liverpool and England goalkeeper has had a long and successful career in football, but has rarely come across a dressing room as tight as this City squad.
"I think one of the biggest things for me is the team spirit that we've got in the dressing room," he said.
"There's a mix of cultures and languages but everyone seems to click. I've been in football a long time and the dressing room is definitely one of the tightest that I've been involved with. There's no egos, everyone gets on great. That is really important for me."
