Scott Brown misses out as Jim Goodwin names his first Aberdeen team to face Motherwell

New boss Jim Goodwin has named his first Aberdeen XI as his side take on Motherwell.

Captain Scott Brown - a contender to become the next St Mirren manager- misses out after limping out of the midweek draw with St Johnstone.

The veteran midfielder was withdrawn shortly after the hour mark against Saints and interim boss Barry Robson admitted the injury "didn't look good".

Goodwin has drafted in impressive youngster Connor Barron as he takes immediate charge of the team after his appointment was confirmed on Saturday.

There was brief uncertainty over whether the Irishman would make his dugout debut today after the Fir Park surface was subject to a pitch inspection

But the turf was deemed playable and it's game on at Fir Park, with Goodwin's team as follows: Joe Lewis, Ross McCrorie, Declan Gallagher, David Bates, Calvin Ramsay, Jonny Hayes, Adam Montgomery, Vicente Besuijen, Connor Barron, Lewis Ferguson, Christian Ramirez.

Earlier on Saturday, Goodwin described the chance to manage the Dons as "a dream come true".

“I am hugely honoured to have been offered the role of manager at this great football club," Goodwin said. “I would like to thank the board for putting their trust in me and I will do all I can going forward to repay the faith they have shown in me.

“The opportunity to work at one of the biggest clubs in the country is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to get started.

“Not only does Aberdeen FC have a great history and fan base, but it also has a clear ambition to be successful both on and off the pitch, an ambition which matches my own. You only need to see the level of investment made at Cormack Park to realise that.

“I can guarantee everyone connected to Aberdeen FC that I will give my all on a daily basis to ensure the club has the success it so richly craves and deserves.”
