The aftermath of a burnt out vehicle has been pictured in a Scots car park after locals described hearing an 'explosion' in the area.
The remains of a white Seat can be seen in Penicuik, Midlothian, in the early hours of Tuesday April 12, Edinburgh Live reports.
Many nearby residents said they were woken by a loud noise with some referring to the deafening sound as an "explosion."
One person, who wishes to remain anonymous, took a picture of the car on John Street, opposite playing fields in the area.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed they attended the incident in the early hours of Tuesday.
They said crews left the scene after making sure it was safe.
A spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.47am on Tuesday, April 12 to reports of a car on fire at John Street, Penicuik.
"Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one car.
"There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe."
Police Scotland were also made aware of the incident, but no further information has been issued by them at this time.
Locals say that there have been various incidents involving youths in Penicuik lately, including trees and bins being set alight.
