Scots student diagnosed with inoperable rare brain tumour after months of headaches

A Scots student who suffered from headaches for several months has been given the devastating news that his tumour is inoperable.

Jordan Kearney, from Peterhead, was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer when a large, 4cm mass was discovered after an appointment at an opticians in June.

The 22-year-old was taken into Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where an emergency biopsy was performed and three weeks later he was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM grade 4), leaving mum Maria and Damian devastated.

The tumour is inoperable due to its location and Jordan is undergoing chemo-radiotherapy as his family search for alternative treatments.

Jordan, who was head boy at Peterhead Academy had to defer the last term of his final year at university studying international business management, because of the debilitating headaches he was suffering.

Speaking to Aberdeen Live, Jordan's uncle David Kearney hailed his popular nephew's character and said the family had been overwhelmed with the support he's received.

He said: "It has been an absolutely horrendous eight weeks for him and his parents. He is honestly the loveliest fella that you'll ever meet. He's never been in an argument, I don't even think he's even swore at anybody.

"He's been dealt an extremely bad hand. He was just away to finish university, he's 22 and he's too young to let go. The fight for us now is that there might be some kind of private options.

"They obviously can't operate on it and the alternatives that we've been looking at are incredibly expensive. We weren't sure at first about putting up a fundraising page but within a matter of hours people have flooded the page.

"I'm not a wealthy man but I put in £100 just to get the ball rolling and since around 8.30pm on Wednesday the donations have been pouring in. I think that's a testament to just how well thought of Jordan is in the community."

Jordan, who manages a McDonald's branch in Peterhead, is having his spirits kept high by having his hospital room surrounded by photos of family, friends and pets.

David added: "The response has just been incredible. People themselves are going through hard times and they've thought to put some money in which will be a huge help to him.

"He's not doing that great, he's been going through his chemo and his mum has practically lived at the hospital with him by his side. It's now a case where we've got to put up a fight for him and raise as much money as possible for Jordan."

Donations to Jordan's GoFundMe page can be made here.
