Scots singer Nina Nesbitt says local food is highlight of US radio tour as she eats her way across the States

Nina Nesbitt’s lived the American dream – by eating her way across the States.

The pop star spent three months touring US radio stations, coast to coast.

But the Best You Had singer, from Balerno near Edinburgh, admitted the highlight was packing away the incredible array of grub at dinner time.

Nina, 28, told The Big Travel Podcast: “The best part [of touring the States] is definitely the food. I’m not a foodie who likes posh restaurants, I just like the local delicacy.

“So I’ve tried the deep-dish pizzas in Chicago, I’ve had the brisket, the American barbecue in the South,
Mexican in Texas, pizzas in New York.

“We try everything wherever we go, like the Philly cheesesteaks in Philadelphia.

“It’s such an unstable career and there’s not much of a routine because you’re travelling.

“So having that one meal and doing something special for it and trying something new is always our constant on tour. It’s something we look forward to every day.”

Nina shot from YouTube obscurity to tour with Example and Ed Sheeran, who she then dated. Her debut album Peroxide was a No1 hit in Scotland and she’s just released her third LP, Älskar, part of which she wrote while staying in Los Angeles.

But she insisted LA is not for her. Nina added: “I think I’d go crazy if I lived there for long. It’s hard to stay grounded because everything’s available and everything’s in excess.
